Reification and caprice are contrasting but entangling perspectives to study the bubonic plague in the late 1880s in Hong Kong. I break the traditional signification of archival materials manipulated by the history writer, reify, and construct a new way of seeing in this set of work. By cropping, reshooting, and modulating archival images, I re-examine the emotion and temperance of photos only used to support the factual histories and documents. Fragmented and sentimental imageries enable me to contemplate the ambiguity of the notion of histories.
